The NPO hosts the event every December with the aim of raising funds for education. The hike will start at 06:30 at Mafarana village near Letsitele and after the hike, different indigenous games such as khadzi (skipping rope) and tinghedzo will be presented.
Tickets will cost adults R150, while kids will pay R60. The tickets will also include a lunch. VIN was established in 2012 by academics from Mulati, Mafarana, Ntsako, Bonn, and Sedan villages. They provide mentoring and coaching support to matriculants from the five villages.
Every year the organisation also hosts an award ceremony for grade 12 learners who perform well in the final exams. The learners are rewarded with cash prizes and electronic devices with the aim of motivating learners who are in lower grades to excel academically.
They also host a chairman’s lunch every quarter attended by the best-performing learners on invitation. The proceeds of the hike will go towards the different programmes VIN hosts. To sponsor or donate towards the organisation, contact VIN’s treasurer, Matimba Maholobela at 073 226 2344.
